Transport Planner

At Booth’s Logistics, our strength is our people. We’re a proudly New Zealand-owned business with a Can Do, Will Do approach, and we’re looking for someone who wants to learn, grow and build a career with us.

Transport and logistics is a fast-moving industry where no two days are quite the same. If you enjoy solving problems, working with people, keeping things organised and making things happen, this could be a great next step for you.

You might already have some experience in transport, logistics, dispatch or customer service, or you might be early in your career and looking for an opportunity to develop. What matters most to us is your attitude, willingness to learn and drive to do a great job.

The Role

We’re looking for a Transport Planner to join our Palmerston North team.

  • 100 hours per fortnight
  • Usual hours: 5am-3pm Monday - Friday / Saturdays's when required

We can discuss the hours in more detail during the interview process.

As a Transport Planner, you’ll be right in the middle of the action, helping coordinate freight movements across our network and working closely with drivers, customers, other Booth’s branches and our wider operations team.

You’ll learn how a busy transport operation works, develop your planning and problem-solving skills and build valuable experience in an industry that keeps New Zealand moving.

For the right person, this is also an opportunity to grow your career with Booth’s. Many of our people have progressed into more senior operational and leadership roles after starting in planning, dispatch and other frontline positions.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll be involved in:

  • Planning and coordinating inbound and outbound freight.
  • Working closely with drivers, customers and teams across our branch network.
  • Creating manifests and ensuring freight information is accurate and up to date.
  • Keeping branches and Customer Service informed of delays or changes.
  • Using our transport systems to help keep freight moving efficiently.
  • Problem-solving when plans change – because in transport, sometimes they do!
  • Learning our processes and contributing ideas about how we can work smarter and better.

What we’re looking for

You don’t need to know everything on day one. We’re looking for someone who brings the right attitude and is keen to develop.

You’ll ideally have:

  • Some experience in transport, logistics, dispatch, planning, customer service or a similar fast-paced environment – but we’re open to someone with the right potential who is ready to learn.
  • A genuine interest in building a career in transport and logistics.
  • A positive Can Do, Will Do attitude.
  • Confidence using computers and learning new systems.
  • Good written, verbal and numeracy skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and organisation.
  • The ability to communicate confidently with different people.
  • A team-first approach and willingness to help others.
  • The ability to think on your feet and stay calm when things get busy.
  • A strong commitment to keeping yourself and others safe.

Why Booth’s?

Joining Booth’s means becoming part of a national transport and logistics business where there are real opportunities to learn and progress.

We offer:

  • Competitive remuneration.
  • Training and support to help you succeed.
  • Exposure to different parts of the transport and logistics industry.
  • Opportunities to develop and progress your career within Booth’s.
  • A great team environment where people work together to get the job done.

If you’re ambitious, enjoy a challenge and want to build a career in an industry that plays a vital role in keeping New Zealand moving, we’d love to hear from you.

A few important things

You’ll need to complete a pre-employment medical and drug test, along with ACC and Ministry of Justice checks.

To apply, you must have New Zealand or Australian residency or hold a valid New Zealand Open Work Visa.

We’ll be interviewing throughout the application period, so if this sounds like the opportunity for you, don’t wait until closing day to apply.
