National Health & Safety Manager

At Booth's Logistics, we believe everyone deserves to go home safe, every day. We're looking for an experienced, passionate and down-to-earth National Health & Safety Manager to help us take our safety culture to the next level.

This is an opportunity to make a genuine impact across a nationwide, family-owned New Zealand business. We're looking for someone who can connect with people, influence change and turn good intentions into everyday actions.

We're not looking for someone to simply manage compliance. We're looking for someone who can lead change.

About us

At Booth's Logistics, our way is to Find a Way.

We're a proudly New Zealand-owned transport and logistics business with a strong Can Do, Will Do attitude. Our people are at the heart of what we do, and we pride ourselves on working together, finding solutions and delivering for our customers.

Operating across New Zealand, our business is fast-paced, hands-on and full of people who take pride in getting the job done.

As we continue to grow and evolve, we're committed to building a stronger, more consistent safety culture where everyone understands their responsibilities, leaders actively lead safety, and our people feel confident to speak up and look out for each other.

The opportunity

Reporting directly to our CEO and leading our national team of H&S Business Partners, you'll play a key role in shaping the future of health and safety at Booth's.

Your focus will be on building a culture where safety is part of how we work, not something we do because a policy or procedure tells us to.

You'll work closely with our senior leadership team, regional, branch and warehouse managers, and frontline teams to build ownership, strengthen capability and create practical, sustainable improvements.

What you'll be doing:

  • Leading our safety culture: Building engagement, accountability and a genuine commitment to working safely across our branches, warehouses and transport operations.
  • Influencing and coaching leaders: Helping our leaders take ownership of safety, have meaningful conversations and lead by example.
  • Making safety simple: Cutting through complexity to develop clear, practical approaches that make it easier for our people to do the right thing.
  • Managing what matters most: Ensuring our critical risks are understood, effectively controlled and continually improved.
  • Leading and developing our H&S team: Building a trusted, capable and proactive team that partners with the business to make a difference.
  • Turning learning into action: Using incidents, near misses and feedback to drive improvements that stick.
  • Providing strategic leadership: Setting our national H&S direction, ensuring we meet our obligations and providing the CEO and Board with confidence in how our risks are being managed.

About you

You're an experienced H&S leader who knows that lasting change doesn't come from another policy, checklist or poster on the wall. It comes from relationships, conversations, leadership and getting people involved.

You're equally comfortable having a conversation with a driver in the yard as you are presenting to the Board. You understand the realities of a busy operational environment and know how to balance practical business needs with keeping people safe.

 You'll bring:

  • Proven experience leading health and safety in transport, logistics, warehousing or another high-risk operational environment.
  • A track record of positively influencing safety culture and engaging people at all levels.
  • Strong leadership and coaching skills, with the ability to build trust, challenge constructively and bring people on the journey.
  • Sound knowledge of New Zealand health and safety legislation, critical risk management and governance requirements.
  • Experience leading and developing H&S professionals.
  • A practical, solutions-focused approach and the confidence to simplify processes without compromising standards.
  • Excellent communication skills, sound judgement and a genuine passion for people.

Most importantly, you're someone who gets out into the business, listens, builds relationships and follows through.

You don't need to have all the answers, but you do need the curiosity, courage and drive to find better ways of doing things.

Why join Booth's?

This is more than an opportunity to lead a health and safety function. It's a chance to make a meaningful difference to how people think about, lead and practise safety across our business.

You'll have the opportunity to shape our national approach, work directly with our CEO and senior leaders, and build on the capability of a team committed to making a difference.

We're a business that values straight talking, practical solutions, teamwork and people who are prepared to roll up their sleeves.

If you're passionate about creating a workplace where safety is genuinely owned by everyone, we'd love to hear from you.

Come and help us make sure our people get home safe, every day.
